Lebanon: Simplified Trademark Assignment Procedure

The Lebanon Trademarks Office has recently introduced an important change in the trademark assignment process, making it easier for businesses and trademark owners to save time and reduce administrative burdens.

According to the new regulation, the Office has reverted to its previous practice by no longer requiring the submission of the original trademark registration certificate in assignment filings. Previously, this certificate was often required for endorsement purposes.

1. Current Trademark Assignment Requirements in Lebanon

To obtain approval and an official Assignment Confirmation, trademark owners are now only required to submit:

  • Power of Attorney (POA);
  • Deed of Assignment;
  • A scanned copy of the trademark registration certificate.

2. Significance of the Change

With this new policy, the Trademarks Office will issue the assignment confirmation upon receipt of the above documents, without requiring the original registration certificate. This brings several advantages:

  • Simplified procedure with reduced paperwork;
  • Time and cost savings for businesses;
  • Faster completion of trademark ownership transfers.

3. Practical Advice for Businesses

This change provides greater convenience for companies engaged in business and intellectual property matters in Lebanon. However, to ensure smooth and timely processing, applicants must still carefully prepare accurate POAs and Deeds of Assignment in line with the legal requirements.
